Introduction Person-centered care (PCC) is a fundamental approach to healthcare delivery that emphasizes active patient participation in decision-making, respect for individual values and preferences, and the provision of care tailored to each person's unique needs. Despite its widespread adoption, ambiguity remains regarding its conceptual boundaries, defining attributes, and practical implementation. This study aimed to analyze the concept of person-centered care in nursing. Methods This concept analysis was conducted using Walker and Avant's eight-step method. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2010 and 2025. After screening and eligibility assessment based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 32 relevant studies were included. The extracted data were analyzed according to the stages of Walker and Avant's concept analysis method. Results Person-centered care was identified as a multidimensional and relationship-based concept. Its defining attributes included therapeutic partnership, respect for human dignity and autonomy, individualized and holistic care, empathy, coordinated care, cultural sensitivity, and patient empowerment. Antecedents were identified at the individual, interpersonal, and organizational levels. The major consequences included improved patient experience and satisfaction, better clinical outcomes, enhanced patient empowerment, and increased job satisfaction among healthcare professionals. Conclusion Person-centered care extends beyond a disease-focused approach by recognizing individuals as unique persons with distinct values, preferences, and life goals. Clarifying the dimensions of this concept may facilitate the development of educational programs, research initiatives, health policies, and effective implementation of person-centered care across healthcare settings.
