Introduction: Asthma is a respiratory disorder, which causes recurrent breathing attacks through respiratory tract obstruction. Association between Mothers’ poor mental health and asthma is known as a trigger of asthma exacerbations. The aim of this study was to Evaluate Relatedness between Poor mental health in the mothers with asthma Severity in school age children.
Method: This study was a descriptive-correlation research. The statistical population were included all mothers with asthmatic children in Tehran. 132 child 6-12 years old with asthma who referring to the pulmonary clinic of hospital in Tehran and their mothers were selected for sampling in 1395. General Health Questionr-12) GHQ-12) and Juniper Asthma Control Questioner (ACQ) were completed by these children’s mother to assess the mental health and asthma control. After data collection, spss21 software was used for data analysis.
Results: Mental disorder symptoms were found in mothers of children with asthma in the cut-off point. The average was more than the community cut-off point and related to with severity of asthma. The Fisher's Exact Test showed that significant relationship (p=0/000) had between asthma severity and mother mental health.
Conclusion: Mothers of children with asthma are at a lower level of mental health. This problem related to their children asthma severity. Therefore, the mothers of these children should have a special counseling and psychological treatment. |
