Survey of occupational stress scale on nurses in a military hospital in Tehran – 2012

Introduction: Stress is a common disease and work stress is a major cause of lowered productivity in organizations and causes physical and psychological effects on employees. Medical staff is affected by many stress factors responsibility for providing health in patients. This study was performed for evaluation of work stress in a group of health care workers. Material and method: This is a descriptive and analytical study which was performed on the nurses in a military hospital in Tehran. 51 nurses working in the hospital were attended by simple randomization sampling. Measurement tool was Krishna occupational stress questionnaire. Data was analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive statistics and linear regression analysis. Results: A total of 51 nurses completed data. 9 subject with minimum stress (18%), 17 with moderate stress (33%), 20 with high stress (39%) and 5 with very high stress (8/9%) were seen. There was significant correlation between occupational stress and the ward which they worked in. But not between occupational stress and sex. Conclusion: Occupational stress in nursing is usually related to work tension and results in low quality service. It may decrease by recognition and resolving of occupational stress, enrichment of work, eliminate of unfavorable circumstance and appropriate compensate
