Comparison of the effects of conventional and simulation teaching methods on nursing students’ attitude in Personal protection in chemical attacks

Introduction: Many countries as hidden and apparent have access to the chemical, biological and nuclear warfare. The Protections of individual and collective are the first step defense against contamination by chemical agents. This study was designed to compare the effect of conventional training by lecture and training by simulation method on military nursing students’ attitude in personal protection for chemical attacks. Methods: this is a training trials study performed on 78 nursing students in 2013. Data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire consisting of demographic and attitude questions. The validity and reliability was determined by content validity and test/retest method, respectively. Data was analyzed by SPSS software version 20 using descriptive and analytical statistics by independent and pair t test, Chi square, Fischer exact tests in P<0.05. Results: Mean Attitude scores for lecture and simulation group before intervention was 99.71 and 102.76 (P=0.177) and after intervention was 105.29 and 102.75(P=0.28), respectively. This study showed no significant difference before and after of intervention. Conclusion: The present study showed that educational are necessary for increasing attitude, but there was no significant difference between the two methods concerning attitude scores means in Personal protection in chemical attacks.
