Introduction: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most common personality disorders characterized by instability in relationships, self-image, emotions, and impulsivity. Military service, as a transitional and stressful event, can exacerbate the symptoms of BPD in susceptible individuals. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the McLean Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (MSI-BPD) in soldiers diagnosed with BPD who referred to a military psychiatric hospital. Methods: This descriptive-correlational and tool validation study was conducted on 420 soldiers at the 505 Military Psychiatric Hospital of the Ground Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The instruments used included the Borderline Personality Scale (STB), MSI-BPD, and a demographic questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, Cronbach's alpha test, and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The findings indicated that the Persian version of MSI-BPD has adequate convergent and divergent validity, high test-retest reliability, and good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the unidimensional structure of the tool, with an optimal cutoff point of 7, demonstrating a sensitivity of 0.90 and specificity of 0.85. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study suggests that MSI-BPD can serve as a valid and reliable tool for the rapid screening of borderline personality disorder in military and clinical settings.
