Postoperative pain is one of the most important post-surgical complications of cholecystectomy. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of topical heat therapy on shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery of gallbladder.
Material & Methods:
This is a clinical trial performed on 61 patient undergoing laparoscopic bile duct surgery in the department of surgery, Allameh Behnol Hospital in Gonabad, Iran in 2018. The research units were selected by inclusion criteria and randomly divided into three groups: right hemorrhagic therapy group, thermotherapy, position and control. Therapeutic intervention groups performed after 20 minutes of pain sensation by the patient. Data was collected using demographic information and visual analog scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16 at a significant level of less than 0.05.
Results:
There were no significant differences in the research units in all demographic variables, except sex and weight, and were homogeneous. Pain severity (P = 0.001) and 40 minutes (P <0.001) were significantly lower than the intervention before intervention.
Conclusion:
Since heat therapy is easy to learn and low cost, this method can be used to reduce the cost of treatment and side effects and also improve self-care of the patient.
