The Effectiveness of Mindfulness - Based Cognitive Therapy on the quality of life in Women with Breast Cancer

Objective: Breast cancer is a common, malignant and progressive disease. Women with breast cancer experience different physical and mental disorders. The present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy intervention on quality of life in women with breast cancer.
Method: This study is a single case design. Two patients diagnosed with breast cancer and having the entry criteria among the patients who referred to Imam Reza and Baghiatollah hospitals in Tehran were selected and received mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for 8 sessions, 2. 30 hours for each session, and a 2-month follow-up. Participants completed Quality of Life Questionnaire (SF = 36) and Demographics Questionnaire in the pre-treatment (baseline) stage, after the end of the treatment (post-test) and follow-up.
Findings: The results of the analysis showed that women with breast cancer who received mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in four assessment stages during the treatment (in the second, the fourth, the sixth, the eighth sessions and follow-up after the treatment) reported increase in quality of life, compared to baseline.
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy can be effective in increasing the quality of life of women with breast cancer.
