Prediction of Marital Satisfaction Based on Perceived Support, Alexithymia and Empressement

Background: Many studies have by now recognized about effective factors on marital satisfaction. Perceived support, alexithymia and empressement, But the important roles of perceived support, alexithymia and empressement, all together, did not get researchers attention on marital satisfaction, yet. The aim of study was the prediction of marital satisfaction based on the perceived support, alexithymia and empressement.
Materials and methods: This research was post hoc and analytical study of correlational type. Statistical population consist of students women in Islamic Azad University of Varamin in 2016. 140 women selected by simple random sampling method. The instruments were marital satisfaction questionnaire, ‌social support appraisal scale, alexithymia scale and marital intimacy needs questionnaire. Data were analyzed by stepwise regression analysis method.
Results: The findings showed that perceived support, alexithymia, empressement and affective intimacy had a significant relation with marital satisfaction. These variables predicted 44 percent of variance of marital satisfaction and perceived support had the most contribution in prediction of marital satisfaction.
Conclusion: The results were due to the importance of perceived support, alexithymia, empressement and affective intimacy variables in predicting marital satisfaction in women. Therefore ‌paying attention to these variables such perceived support, alexithymia and empressement can be ensuring marital satisfaction.
