Abstract:   (133 Views)
Introduction:
Person-centered palliative care in patients with cancer goes beyond the management of physical symptoms to address the psychological, social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of the individual. Applying Rodgers’ evolutionary concept analysis enables a dynamic exploration of this concept and assists in identifying its attributes, antecedents, and consequences.
Methods:
A systematic search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsycINFO, as well as Persian databases such as SID (Scientific Information Database), Magiran, and Iran Medex covering the years 2000–2025. Guided by Rodgers’ evolutionary approach, 31 relevant articles were analyzed.
Discussion:
Person-centered palliative care places the patient at the core of attention, honoring their values, preferences, and unique needs while preserving human dignity, autonomy, and adherence to professional ethical principles. In this approach, the patient is the central agent of care. The antecedents include independence, self-care ability, awareness of health status, motivation for active participation, and a sense of personal responsibility. The outcomes of such care include reduced suffering, improved quality of life, enhanced human dignity, and strengthened self-efficacy in managing illness and self-care.
Conclusion:
Implementing person-centered palliative care in cancer patients requires a flexible and adaptive approach aligned with the evolving healthcare system. By focusing on the individual’s unique needs, this form of care not only alleviates suffering but also meaningfully promotes human dignity—especially in the final stages of life.
